Bangladesh Tobacco Control Leadership Program began in Cox’s Bazar

A six-day Bangladesh Tobacco Control Leadership Program began in Cox’s Bazar on July 28th, 2018. This is part of the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use, and aims to develop and enhance leadership in countries experiencing the greatest burden of disease and death from tobacco use by building capacity to develop, implement and enforce effective tobacco control policy interventions. The program is being organized by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in collaboration with the National Tobacco Control Cell, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bloomberg Initiative partners and Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs.
 
Around 80 participants representing the officials from the Government of Bangladesh, faculties of different public and private universities, non-government organizations and media agencies are attending the program.
 
Mr. Habibur Rahman Khan, Additional Secretary, Health Services Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was the Chief Guest at the opening session. Dr. Eigil Sorensen, Chief of Field Office, WHO Cox’s Bazar; and Mr. Steve Tamplin, Associate Scientist, Institute for Global Tobacco Control, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) were the Special Guests.
The program will conclude on August 2nd, 2018 with a Certificate giving ceremony.
