Workshop on Engaging Local Leaders in Promoting Urban Health Held

For promoting the services of Rongdhonu clinics of UPHCSDP by engaging local leaders, a one-day workshop titled Engaging Local Leaders in Promoting Urban Health was held on January 18, 2016 in the Conference Room of Narayanganj City Corporation. The purpose of the workshop was to engage the local leaders in promoting the urban health services of the Rongdhonu clinics among potential clients by identifying the roles and responsibilities of the Ward Counselors and the Members of the Ward Urban Health Care Coordination Committee (WUHCCC). About 65 participants including Ward Counsellors of Narayanganj City Corporation, Members of the WUHCCC, NGOs representatives and other stakeholders like teachers, slum leaders, and religious leaders were present in the workshop. Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, Honourable Mayor, Narayanganj City Corporation graced the inaugural session as the chief guest. Mr. Md. Abu Bakr Siddique, Project Director, UPHCSDP, Dr. Ashutosh Dash, Civil Surgeon, Narayanganj and Mr. Md. Bashir Uddin, Deputy Director, Family Planning, Narayanganj were present as special guests in the workshop. Mr. Md. Mostofa Kamal Majumder, Chief Executive Officer, Narayanganj City Corporation chaired the inaugural session of the workshop. Ms. Yasmin Khan, Team Leader, BCCM component delivered the welcome speech and Ms. Kanta Devi, Communication Specialist, BCCM component shared the objectives of the workshop. The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Kanta Devi. The workshop was divided into Inauguration session and a Plenary Session. Dr. Dil Afroze Shobhan, Project Manager, PSKP-PPS, Narayanganj made a short power-point presentation on the services delivered through the Rainbow marked service centers known as CRHCC and PHCC. There was a brainstorming session of the participants to identify the roles and responsibilities of the Ward Counselors and the Members of Ward Urban Health Care Coordination Committee. After the brainstorming session, the participants were engaged in group work and later they presented their ideas on how to improve and promote the UPHCSDP services at the local level. The workshop concluded with the commitment for future involvement by the guests and participants followed by a wrap-up session.
